Research and Reference Services and Fees

The Archives is open for denominationally-related business from Monday to Friday, 9:00 to 4:45. We are also open by appointment to the general public during these same hours. Please note however, that during July and August the office closes at 4:00 rather than 4:45. For researchers visiting the Archives in person, there are no research fees. For those unable to visit the Archives in person, or unable to have someone visit the Archives on their behalf, the staff of the Archives can provide limited research services as outlined below (please do not send your payment for research in advance; an invoice will be sent out in the mail once research is completed).

1. Services and Fees for the General Public:

"Research Service" involves consulting the necessary finding aids and examining the record books, documents, and manuscripts (primary sources) held within the Archives in order to provide specific information relating to a research request. Research Service fees are based on staff time, not on whether information is found.

  • Research Service up to 30 minutes - $12.50 (plus 5% GST)
  • Research Service 30 min. to 60 minutes - $25.00 (plus 5% GST)
  • Research Service 1 hour to 1.5 hours - $37.50 (plus 5% GST)
  • Research Service 1.5 hours to 2 hours - $50.00 (plus 5% GST)

Due to the large number of research requests received by the office and the time constraints on the Archives staff, research services beyond 2 hours cannot be provided. If more extensive research is required, you may wish to hire a professional researcher. A listing of research specialists (compiled by the Archives of Ontario) is available upon request, or visit the Archives of Ontario's web site at www.archives.gov.on.ca.

Vital Statistics Research Service for Legal Purposes (non-genealogical): involves searching church registers for a baptism or marriage record of a living individual in order to provide a signed copy of the document for legal or quasi-legal purposes.

  • Vital Statistics Legal Research Service - flat rate of $12.50 per request (plus 5% GST)

2. Services and Fees for Church Officials

Reference and research services provided for congregations, presbyteries, synods, committees and boards of General Assembly, and the National Offices of the church, that are of an official legal, financial, or administrative nature, should be put in writing to the Archivist and are subsequently provided free of charge. Due to the large number of research requests received by the Archives, and the time constraints upon the Archives staff, reference and research requests of an unofficial informational and/or historical nature will follow the fee structure mentioned above for the general public.
